If so, you are not alone and therapy can provide you with the guidance and support needed to move toward mental, physical, and emotional balance for a healthier more successful life. Seeking mental health treatment is an important decision and finding the right psychologist is crucial to treatment outcome. Creating a strong and positive therapeutic relationship requires the creation of a “working alliance.” In other terms, creating a strong therapeutic collaborative relationship is of paramount importance in the process of change and a key ingredient towards your progress in therapy. I focus on providing a safe and supportive environment and creating a space of acceptance, warmth, and understanding. While being supportive, I’ll also challenge you to acknowledge and confront unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviors that are interfering with your personal goals.

Barriers to Seeking Professional Help: In my professional and personal experience I have come to learn and understand the impact stigma and shame have on your decision to seek professional help. Growing up in families, cultures, and societies where seeking professional help is viewed as a flaw or sign of weakness impedes the process of recognizing the need for and, ultimately, seeking appropriate professional help. The fear of being labeled, misunderstood, or seen as “defective” can be a powerful deterrent for some of us who are in need of additional support. It takes courage and effort to seek help so you may be scared to reach out. Remember that you do not have to be alone in your journey of change. Together we can create a rewarding future.

Anxiety

If you answered “yes” to any or all questions, you may be struggling with anxiety. Some amount of anxiety is normal and often healthy as it can motivate us to reach our goals. However, persistent and significant amount of anxiety can be debilitating for most people. There are varies types of anxiety and it’s important to understand your unique experience. As is true for other psychological concerns, the cause of anxiety differs from person to person; the cause may be linked to past and/or current stressors, genetics, medical factors, or withdrawals from the use of illicit substances. If not appropriately treated, it can worsen over time and have a significant impact on your overall functioning. I work closely with other professionals to create a treatment plan that will best fit your experience of anxiety and facilitate recovery of overall health and wellbeing.

If you answered “yes” to some or all of these questions, you may be feeling depressed. Depression is not a choice and you can’t just “snap out” of it. Despite family, culture and societal beliefs that may communicate something to the contrary, depression is real and often debilitating. It may impacts you overall functioning and psychological and physiological wellbeing. Many experience low energy and lack of motivation, which negatively impacting relationships and academic or work performance. The root of depression varies from person to person and some of the factors may include genetics, significant life events, hormonal changes, certain illness, drug and alcohol use, and some medications. If not treated appropriately and in a timely manner, it can worsen over time leading some to have thoughts of ending their lives. If you or anyone you know is considering ending their life, do not hesitate to call 911 or reach out for support. I work closely with other professionals to create a treatment plan that will best fit your experience of depression and facilitate recovery of overall health and wellbeing.

Relationship Concerns

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions you are not alone. Most of us long for meaningful connections and feel understandably emotionally frustrated when our continuous efforts to achieve this fail to deliver the desired results. Creating and maintain healthy relationships with self and others can be challenging and it requires effort throughout the relationship. Your upbringing, family values and beliefs, as well as culture and societal expectations can often create narratives that are in conflict with your individual and group identities. Shame and doubt about what you want and need impedes your progress toward happiness. I invite you to collaboratively engage in therapeutic work together in order to explore and process your experiences so that you may consciously construct your own narrative for relationships and learn to create healthier connections with self and others. Let’s make the shift from self-presenting to self-disclosing.

Men’s Issue

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions and have the desire to experience healthy relationships with self and others, let’s work together to reach these goals. Seeking support is a courageous act and the first step toward lasting change. You may move about the world with a sense that something feels wrong but don’t know how to label it, understand it, and fix it. This becomes even more difficult when you lack safe spaces where you can communicate openly and show your authentic self. We can create that space together. The world is changing and so is the definition of masculinity. Let’s break through the traditional mold of masculinity and create a world that welcomes your uniqueness. Together we can create a clear path to your future that includes the sense of security and confidence for which you are searching.
